The mission of Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery is to fulfill the corporal and spiritual works of mercy to bury and pray for the dead. Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery offers a beautiful and dignified place of rest for our beloved deceased. Lots are available to both Catholics and non-Catholics, and may be pre-purchased.

Notice: Public Water Access Changes
May 12, 2026: Public access water in the Cemetery will be turned on effective Tuesday, May 12th. However, water access for areas off St John Road will not be turned on until that water line has been replaced.
As part of this improvement plan, the number of access points will be reduced. Once work is completed on each line, public access water will be limited to one faucet/spigot per road, generally located near the entry of each cemetery road (St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke, St. John), closer to Ohio Street.
These changes are necessary to modernize our water system, improve reliability, and reduce maintenance issues with these aging lines. Visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly when bringing water for plantings or grave care.
We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as this important work is completed.

Digital Cemetery Maps

Our cemetery staff has created digital maps linked on this page. While these maps are not able to contain the individual names of all those buried at Mount Pleasant, each map will show the FAMILY NAME of each Lot Holder and the location of the lot within a particular section. We hope that this new resource will improve your experience when visiting departed family members and friends. As always, if you need assistance with identifying the Section and Lot Number of a loved one, the cemetery office staff is available to assist at the office in St. Mary Church, or via phone (947-4322).

Cemetery Guidelines

Many people ask about planting flowers, shrubs and trees at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. Our guidelines are posted at the entrance of the cemetery. Your cooperation with our guidelines will help keep our cemetery beautiful and dignified. If you have any questions, kindly contact Dave Lindemann at the cemetery office at 947-4322.- Artificial decorations are not allowed.
- Fresh flowers in containers and plants in beds adjacent to upright monuments are allowed anytime.
- No tubs, boxes, urns or similar containers allowed after Father's Day.
- Flowering shrubs, trees and rose bushes are prohibited on lots.

Genealogy on the Web
The Maine Catholic Cemetery Committee, with the support of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, has developed a user-friendly searchable database to locate a loved one buried in one of the 65 Catholic cemeteries in the diocese or to research genealogy.
Information is limited for security reasons, such as identity theft, but the database has all of the basic information. You can even download a map of the cemetery, print it and take it with you to the cemetery to help locate lots.
To access the database, go to Genealogy on the Portland Diocese website. Follow the link to search cemeteries. When the pop-up menu appears, choose from the list of cemeteries. Enter the last name of the deceased. A list will appear of all those buried in the cemetery with the last name, first name and date of death to help narrow your search. Click on the person you are looking for and the information will pop up. Older burials (prior to 1953) may have less information because complete records were not kept prior to that year. If you have information on an individual who was buried prior to that date and you would like to share it, please email: [email protected]. Be sure that any information you forward is accurate and factual.
